FAB 5 HEADLINES "CELEBRATE BROOKLYN"
Jamaica’s
most versatile band, Fab 5, will be in New York on the Independence Weekend as they perform on the world famous "Celebrate Brooklyn"cultural series, headlining a two-act night at The Prospect Park Bandshell. Appearing alongside Jamaica's most celebrated home-based band will be Uzalo, led by the extraordinary percussionist Junior "Gabu"Wedderburn, master drummer of Broadway's "Lion King"snf founder of the Jamaican roots collective, ""Ancient Vibrations". The two month celebration promoted by BRIC Arts Media, features some of the hottest and most influential artistes across a wide range of genres. Fab 5 will be one of the very select few, non-Brooklyn based acts appearing on the series. With their tremendous versatility in music and encyclopedic knowledge of Jamaican music and culture, the band is sure to turn the event into, at once a hughe dance celebration and simultaneously, a lesson in Jamaican's amazing musical history.
Fab 5 have hit songs in genres as diverse as reggae, soul/R&B, dancehall, Dub, soca and specialist holiday music. In addition the individual band members and the band as a group have worked in studio and on stage with acts as celebrated as: "Bob Marley"; "Rita Marley"; the late country music legend Skeeter Davis; R&B greats Ben E. King, Chuck Jackson, and The Chi-Lites; virtually every top Jamaican act; and most of the top Calypso ad Soca acts from the eastern Caribbean including "The Mighty Sparrow".
Fab 5 who, have gained great critical acclaim and CD sales from their Live Series which documents the great music of Jamaica's various musical eras, will be pulling out the stops and may have a surprise guest or two on hand to further enthrall the expected large turnout at the free event.
